(Dryden, NY) The National Women's Soccer tournament began today at Thompkins Cortland Community College.  The #8 seeded Nassau Lions took on #1 seeded Herkimer Generals.  The temperature was frigid at the kick off, roughly 38 degrees.  The Generals came out attacking the Lions defense with was seemed like a constant attack.  Although the Lions had their offensive chances the ball just didn't find the net before the first half ended.  Down 3-0 at the mid point Coach Megaloudis, made some adjustments and the Lions Found a renewed spirit.  The attacked seemed to swing in the Lions favor a fast break for the Generals found them with a 4-0 lead.

Second year players Kayla Murphy, Brianna Polidora, and Haley Schmidt urged their teammates to dig deep and fight on.  The team responded and finally in the 77th minute the Lions created a chance which resulted in an own goal and the Lions were on the board.  With Brienna Sullivan, Dianna Lemus and Dalhy Cianni keeping themselves behind the ball the Generals were kept out of Bridget Treissl's net. Needing fresh legs Coach Megaloudis, looked to his bench, Karla Panameno, Claudia Urquiza, Melany Rodriguez, Sarah DeFlorio, and Kristel Carbajal stepped up huge!  With the added effort from the subs the Lions earned a corner kick that Lisa Maybie took and put it directly in the net at the 86th minute.  Unfortunately it just wasn't enough in the end.

With this result the Lions are moved into the consolation bracket, and will face the #5 Madison College Wolfpack tomorrow at 10 am.
