(Garden City, NY) The Nassau Community College Women's Soccer Team went head to head with the Fashion Institute of Technology last Saturday. This was the Lions debut home game for the 2017 season in the Mitchell Athletic Complex, and the energy was infectious.
With the perfect weather for a match, an out of the ordinary lineup took the field. Coach Chris hoped that this change up would shake things up a bit on the field - and he was right. The Lions put pressure on the Tigers from the very beginning coming out strong and determined.
Within the first five minutes
Diana Lemus found
Kayla Murphy in perfect scoring position, and the Lions were up 1-0! The team was really gelling together and had numerous shots on goal.
Kayla Murphy was back again, this time scoring off of a direct kick outside of the 18 yard mark to close the first half.
Defense was the name of the game in the second half. NCC defense shut down the Tigers opportunities on goal. Goalie Bridget Triessi had an amazing diving save to keep FIT scoreless.
Sophomore
Haley Schmidt made a perfect assist to
Lisa Maybie who found the back of the net with only a few minutes left in the second half. Nassau was victorious finishes 3-0.
The Lions are now 1-4 for the season, and have a lot to look forward to. You can catch them back in action this weekend at the Howard Community College Dragon Invitational - don't miss it!
