(Garden City, NY) Coming off of a 9 game win streak, including victories against Monroe Bronx in the Region XV Semi-Finals and Suffolk in the Region XV Finals, the Lions found themselves in the District Championship on Saturday against Holyoke. At the beginning of the season, Nassau beat Holyoke, 1-0.
The game was scoreless 30 minutes in. At 39 minutes,
Fanny Betschart Mattsson and
Katherine Barahona drove down the field passing every defender. They crossed over to
Shonagh Cleary who took a shot and found the back of the net to get the Lions on the scoreboard. Cleary was back again at 67 minutes, with an assist from
Kelly Fogarty. NCC was up 2-0.Â
It wasn't until there were only a few minutes left in the game, that Holyoke snuck a goal through the Nassau defense making the score 2-1. But Nassau's
Nataly Ramirez wasn't done yet. She responded scoring twice in a matter of 2 minutes. She had assists from
Kelly Fogarty and Rebbekah Joseph.

Chris Megaloudis commented, "What a day. The women came out here and completely played as a unit. We've been waiting for this moment all season and now is our time. We will be ready for whatever the tournament throws our way."
The Lions will compete in the NJCAA National Tournament that starts on Thursday in Dryden, New York. The women go into this game 14-3-1.
