Caleb Peralta Munoz and
Karen Ramirez of the Nassau Community College men's and women's wrestling programs earned SUNY Scholar-Athlete of the Year honors for the 2023-24 winter season on April 19.
The NCC duo was among 21 SUNY student-athletes celebrated for sports and classroom achievements. Nominees are voted on by representatives of SUNY institutions who consider a student-athlete's cumulative grade point average, current and career statistics, and athletic and academic honors.
Men's Wrestling - Caleb Peralta Munoz, Nassau Community College
Peralta Munoz reached the quarterfinals at the 2024 NJCAA National Championships and was the NJCAA Northeast District champion in the 141-division. The sophomore helped power NCC to a Northeast District championship in 2023 and 2024, a Division III national championship in 2023, and second place at 2024 nationals. A business administration major, Peralta boasts a 3.50 overall GPA.
Women's At-Large - Karen Ramirez, Women's Wrestling, Nassau Community College
Ramirez advanced to the Round of 16 in the 143-division at the 2024 NJCAA Women's Wrestling Invitational. The freshman studies sports marketing and sports a 3.79 overall GPA.
Fifty-three SUNY colleges and universities support more than 14,000 student-athletes at the NCAA Division I, NCAA Division III, USCAA, and NJCAA. All are eligible for SUNY Scholar-Athlete of the Year honors in their respective sports.
