The NCC Track & Field team traveled to Utica New York for the 2024 NJCAA DII Outdoor Track & Field Championship hosted at Mohawk Valley Community College.
The events started strong for Nassau as
Gianna Sanchez was able to claim a top 10 finish in the Women's 100m sprint just missing the Final and All American honors as she placed 9th overall. Sanchez would have the same outcome as she would place 9th overall narrowly missing out on the 200m final.
Ciarra Parriag placed 18th overall in the womens 400m race missing out on the finals but securing a top 20 national finish.
The Men's 4x100m team of
Xavier Eaddy,
Deelan Delva,
Ahmad Momand, and
Leonardo Valdez would reach the finals after placing 6th in the preliminary heat and they would secure the 8th place spot in the finals. This team has earned All-American honors with their finish and are the fastest since 2014.
The Men's 4x400m team of
Kristofer Richberg,
David Babatunde,
Ryan Farrell, and
Deelan Delva placed third in the preliminary heat qualifying them for finals where they would go on to get 5th place overall in the finals earning All-American honors.
In the Men's 100m
Isaiah Lee would place 25th overall,
Leonardo Valdez would place 29th overall and Xavier Eddy would place 33rd overall.
In the Men's 200m Xavier Eddy would place 25th overall.
In the Men's 400m the Lions saw
Kristofer Richberg place 16th overall,
David Babatunde following in 17th overall and
Deelan Delva placing 21st overall.
In the Men's 800m Ryan Ferrell placed 11th overall just missing out on the finals.
In the Men's Shot Put final
Rodney Yarbrough placed 9th overall, he also placed 9th overall in the discus throw earning himself All-American honors for the second year in a row.
In the Men's Javelin Yarbrough was able to secure 8th place overall with teammate
Ryan Farrell securing 20th.
Head Coach
Eamon Sheerin had this to say when asked about the team and their progression over the season:
" Throughout the season we worked on developing our athletes with the goal of succeeding in 4x100m and 4x400m relays. Each meet we steadily improved on our times and were able to finish the season at Nationals running the best time in the last decade for both events."
Coach Mohammad and Coach Sheerin are very proud of the teams success and look forward to continuing the success through the upcoming indoor and outdoor seasons.
