Nassau Lions Dominate the Panthers

Result

The Nassau Community College women's soccer team picked up its first win of the season in dominant fashion, defeating Borough of Manhatten Community College 8-0 on Tuesday afternoon at Mitchel Field. Nassau controlled the match, overwhelming BMCC with relentless offense and denying the Panthers a single shot attempt. With eight different players contributing to the scoring, the Lions improve their record to 1-1.

How It Happened

First Half (4-0):

  • After applying heavy pressure early, the Lions broke through in the 28th minute when Sloane Lipton netted the opener with an unassisted strike. Just six minutes later, Maydelin Hernandez doubled the lead with a goal of her own. Nassau continued to roll as Madison Galette scored in the 37th minute, and Lipton added her second just before halftime to put the Lions up 4-0.
Second Half (4-0):
  • Nassau wasted no time extending the lead after the break, with Antoinette Flaherty scoring in the 48th minute. Laura Florez then found the net in the 71st minute off an assist from Kelly Garay, before Flaherty added her second just two minutes later. The Lions capped the rout in the 78th minute as Angela Reyes scored with an assist from Florez to make it 8-0.

Notes & Standout Performers

  • Lipton led the way with two goals in the opening half.
  • Flaherty also netted two gaols, both coming in the second half.
  • Hernandez, Galette, Florez, and Reyes each scored once, with Florez also adding an assist.
  • Garay recorded the other assist on Florez' goal.
  • Nassau outshot BMCC 26-0, with 12 shots on goal.
  • Goalkeeper Heidi Castaneda did not face a shot in recording the shutout.
