Sam Thomas has been affiliated with Nassau C.C. Wrestling since 1986. He began as a student and American Wrestler, with the honor of being named Team Captain on one of NCC’s teams that won top honors at the National level. In 1992, Sam served as Volunteer Assistant Coach for Coach Chuck Henke and in 1996, Sam became Assistant Coach alongside Head Coach Paul Schmidt. Together, they have had the success of over fifty All Americans, seven National Champions, eight Teams, and two Dual-Meet National Championship Teams.
Coach Thomas remains dedicated to the community as an active fourteen year veteran of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority Police Department and the sole owner of a personal training gym that has been in operation in Bellmore and Wantagh for the last ten years. While he employs a team of Certified Personal Trainers, one may catch Sam there some mornings enthusiastically training his suburban Long Island clients into any type of athlete they are willing to work to become. Encouraging, driving and guiding others to success is woven into Sam’s character and evident to others in all of his pursuits.
Sam and his lovely wife Sandy recently celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary. They are proud parents of a son and daughter. Their son is a graduate of Florida Atlantic University and is presently a Fort Lauderdale Police Officer. Their daughter recently graduated with high honors from George Mason University and is working in the inner-city with a non-profit organization that provides tutoring and guidance for students to achieve academic success.
Samb doesn’t have any particular hobby; “I just enjoy life.” He’s a big Yankees fan and was a season ticket holder for 14 years. In his free time, he enjoys taking his family to Broadway shows. In 2011, Sam stepped back onto the mat as an athlete.
