Kerri-Ann McTiernan is a national leader in collegiate athletics governance with more than 25 years of experience advancing intercollegiate athletics, strengthening institutional performance, and shaping policy across higher education sports. She serves as Assistant Vice President for Athletics at Nassau Community College and as Vice Chair of the Executive Board of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), where she helps guide governance, strategy, and national policy for more than 520 member colleges serving nearly 70,000 student-athletes across the United States.
At Nassau Community College, McTiernan provides executive leadership for the college’s intercollegiate athletics program, which includes 22 teams and 400 student-athletes. She oversees strategic planning, fiscal management, personnel leadership, and facilities operations while advancing initiatives that strengthen student-athlete success, recruitment pipelines, and community engagement. Under her leadership, Nassau Athletics has sustained a culture of competitive excellence while expanding opportunities that enhance the college’s institutional visibility and championship legacy.
McTiernan’s national leadership within the NJCAA extends beyond her role as Vice Chair. She serves as Executive Director of NJCAA Region XV Athletic Conference, providing governance leadership for 17 member institutions across New York City, Long Island, and Upstate New York. In these roles, she contributes to the strategic direction of two-year college athletics and helps shape governance policies that impact institutions and student-athletes nationwide.
Her leadership has earned national recognition within the NJCAA. McTiernan received the Mary Ellen Leicht Service Award, the Association’s highest honor recognizing distinguished service to two-year college athletics, and the George E. Killian Award of Excellence, which honors individuals who exemplify achievement, leadership, and service within the NJCAA.
Prior to joining Nassau, McTiernan served as Director of Athletics at the Fashion Institute of Technology (SUNY), where she expanded the athletics program, helped lead the development of the state-of-the-art Stanton Fitness Center, and advanced campus recreation and wellness initiatives. Earlier in her career at Kingsborough Community College (CUNY), she made national history as the first woman in the United States to serve as head coach of a collegiate men’s basketball team, leading the program to a CUNY Championship in 2000.
McTiernan holds a Bachelor of Arts in Public Health Medicine from Johns Hopkins University and a Master of Public Administration in Health Administration from Long Island University. She is currently pursuing a Doctor of Education in Higher Education Leadership at St. John’s University.
