(Garden City, NY) The Nassau Lions hosted the Suffolk Community College Sharks at home on Thursday night. The weather was just right for a soccer match - cloudy & 75. Coming off of an epic win on Tuesday night, the women were anxious to add another win to their tally. This was an important game for the Lions. The stands were crowded with family and friends which helped build the momentum!
NCC came out strong. The Lions had fluid passes and the offense was putting the pressure on their defense to test the waters. With the first few minutes of the game going well, Head Coach
Chris Megaloudis decided to push
Brianna Polidora up to defensive midfield where she really broke out of her shell last game.
With an assist from Polidora,
Maya Jones snuck past the defenders, and nailed the first NCC goal of the game! Jones was heating up, and the rest of the team fed off of her fire. The offense continued to put pressure on the Suffolk defense, but it wasn't enough to keep
Maya Jones out as she scored another goal!
The outside midfielders hung tough and had a lot of solid crossing into the box which helped keep the game flowing.
Hannah Woodward and
Diana Lemus worked together down the field. Lemus passed into the middle to Woodward who took a shot from inside the 18, and captured the third goal for the Lions! Shortly after, Lemus got herself in another good position, and was able to score again just before the end of the first half.
With confidence and poise, the women came back into the second half ready to seal the deal. The Lions held the Sharks scoreless, and finished with a final score of 4-0!
The Lions will be back in action on Sunday as they take on Dutchess Community College at home.
