Open Recreation provides Nassau Community College students with opportunities to participate in recreational activities throughout the fall semester. The schedule is divided into two sessions, with outdoor recreation offered during the early portion of the semester before transitioning indoors as temperatures become colder.

Weather Note: The transition from outdoor to indoor recreation is anticipated for mid-October and may be adjusted by Physical Education Complex staff based on weather conditions and facility availability. Indoor facilities may also be utilized as the primary location depending on weather conditions, regardless of the scheduled session date.

Facility Rules & Regulations
The following rules and regulations govern the use of the Physical Education Complex:
- A valid Nassau Community College photo ID is required to use the facility and borrow equipment.
- Appropriate athletic attire and footwear are required. Street clothes are not permitted in activity areas.
- No food, beverages, smoking, vaping, or tobacco/nicotine products are permitted in the facility or open recreation areas.
- Use all equipment and facilities only as intended. Do not use damaged or unsafe equipment; report it to staff immediately.
- Horseplay, fighting, reckless behavior, harassment, and conduct that endangers others are prohibited.
- Follow all posted rules, occupancy limits, safety procedures, and directions from College personnel.
- Report all injuries, accidents, damaged equipment, and unsafe conditions to staff immediately. In an emergency, notify staff and/or call 911.
- Participants are responsible for participating within their own physical capabilities and for using appropriate caution.
- The College is not responsible for lost, stolen, damaged, or missing personal property.
- Open recreation hours are subject to change due to classes, events, maintenance, emergencies, or other operational needs. Check the College website and posted schedules for current hours and closures.
- Violation of these rules may result in removal from the facility and/or suspension of recreation privileges.
- Participants are responsible for determining whether they are physically able and in suitable medical condition to participate in open recreation activities. Participation in activities such as open recreational programs involves inherent risks of injury. By participating, individuals voluntarily assume responsibility for these inherent risks and should consult a physician if they have any questions about their ability to participate safely.
Important Information
Schedule Start Date: September 15, 2026
Outdoor Recreation: The first session will be held outdoors on the Quadrangle beginning September 15. The outdoor session is anticipated to run through October 15, weather permitting.
Indoor Recreation: Beginning October 20, open recreation will move indoors to the Main Gym and Fieldhouse. The transition date may be adjusted based on weather conditions and facility availability.
Weight Room Club: Weight Room Club hours will remain in effect throughout the semester and are not affected by the transition from outdoor to indoor recreation.
All recreation hours and locations are subject to change based on college classes, athletic team activities, weather conditions, and other scheduled events.
