(Garden City, NY) Saturday afternoon, the Lions welcomed Bronx Community College Broncos to their home court. NCC was looking for a win to push them over the .500 bubble. The Broncos were coming off of a 3-1 win and were aiming to make that a winning streak, but the Lions had other ideas.
The first set was fairly close. NCC came out and it took them a minute to brush off the cob webs. They hadn't played at home in a while, and the stands were packed with excited fans. BCC was extremely vocal at the beginning which distracted the Lions. They were a little bit hesitant at the net and had 6 missed serves. However, they adjusted to the nuances of the day, and were able to seal the deal, 25-21!
NCC came to their sense in the second set. They weren't messing around anymore - not on their home court. They were still a little bit sloppy in some areas, but were able to completely shut the Broncos down. They finished them 25-11.
By the third set, the Lions had regained their confidence, and were ready to finish them.
Genesis Zepeda was back from injury and was able to contribute as a setter. The ladies really banded together to help Zepeda find her groove again, and the team overall gelled getting the final win 25-15.Â
A few specific highlights from the night were
Kiara Tibbs with 9 kills and 1 block assist.
Alicja Zaborowska had 8 kills and 6 digs, while
Yosmery Rodriguez tallied 4 kills and 7 digs total. The NCC record for the year is now 9-8.
The Lions will be back in action on Tuesday night to try and continue their win streak. Don't forget you can watch the game live online!Â
