Anthony Machado Heads In Winning Goal Against Queensborough

(Garden City, NY) The Lions went head to head with the Queensborough Community College Tigers at home on Thursday. Queensborough was a highly ranked team and has been doing well this season. NCC was coming off a tough 0-4 loss against Manhattan College, and they needed to regain their footing.

The Tigers brought a very physical game to the field, but the Lions didn't back down. It was a bumpy first half as NCC was loosing 2-0. They went to the locker room, refocused their efforts, and made a game plan.
They came out in the second half blazing, and before the Tigers even knew what hit them, Luis Chaverra got a shot off, and found the back of the net!

Queensborough was not happy about that, and poured on the heat. Just before 60 minutes of play, Luis Chaverra received a yellow card for a professional foul for slowing the play down. Only about three minutes after that, Jamie Quiroz drove down the middle of the field, and launched the ball into the goal to tie the game!

The two teams battled it out, shot for shot. But with about 1:40 left in the game, Queensborough fouled NCC approximately 27 yards out. Jamie Quiroz took the free kick. He kicked a straight lazer to the goal, but the Tigers goalie had a great save and the ball ricocheted off his hands. Anthony Machado was standing near the goal in perfect position, and headed the ball to the back corner of the net - scoring the game winning goal for the Lions! The final score was 3-2.

"The men really wanted this win, and they didn't let their goal out of sight even after being down 2-0. I think this really goes to show what type of team they are, and how they handle difficult situations. We are just getting started!" commented Head Coach Dan Fisher after the game.

Nassau will certainly take this momentum, and use it on Orange Community College this weekend at home.
