Men's Basketball Redeem Themselves in Second Half of Turkey Hoop Shoot Tourney

(Randolph, NJ) This weekend, the Nassau Men's basketball team competed in the Community College of Morris Turkey Hoop Shoot Tournament.

First up for the Lions were the NJCAA Division II opponent and home team, CC of Morris. Nassau came out shooting the ball well. They were hitting 4 for 8 from the 3 point line and held a 10 point lead at 24-14 with 7:54 left in the half. The Titans increased their defensive pressure which caused numerous turnovers and went on a 20-6 run. CC of Morris led 34-30 going into halftime. The Titans momentum continued in the third quarter. Morris's D'Ondre Dent came out and hit three straight 3 pointers, allowing them to extend their lead up to 14 points. There were only about 14 minutes left and the Lions fought back tooth and nail to pull within 3 points at 59-62. The Lions never got any closer as their total of 29 turnovers led to easy scoring opportunities for Morris. The Titans came out victorious 81-67. Cheyenne Nettleton for Nassau had 25 points and 5 assists, while teammate Darius Young had 12 points and 5 rebounds.

On Sunday, the Lions geared up for revenge as they took on Prestige Prep. Nassau jumped out to a fast start and maintained a very comfortable lead throughout. Jordan Lee had a break out performance leading all scorers within 16 points in the first half. Cheyenne Nettleton added 12 points respectively as the Lions led 43-16 at half. In the second half, Nassau continued their dominance as they led by as many as 35 points. Nassau was able to put together big runs due to their pressure defense which led to multiple scoring opportunities. The final score was Nassau, 81 and Prestige 52.

Outstanding players of the game include Jordan Lee who had 22 points, 6 rebounds and 5 steals. Cheyenne Nettleton recorded 17 points, 4 assists and scored an All-Tournament Team selection. Josue Oreste contributed with 10 points and 9 rebounds.

"The men really showed their resilience by bouncing back after a dismal showing in day one. We learned from our first game that we have to take care of the ball if we want to win games." commented Head Coach AJ Wynder after the tournament.

Next up, the Lions are at home against Bronx CC on Tuesday, November 20th.
