(Poughkeepsie, NY) Last Saturday, the Women's Nassau Softball Team traveled to Poughkeepsie, NY to face the Dutchess Falcons for round 2.
Leadoff hitter
Sildrany Lopez hit a bunt first thing to kick off the 1st inning. Within 2 pitches of the second batter, she managed to steal 2nd off of a wild pitch.
Courtney Ludewig hit Lopez home with a single, making the score 1-0. Geena Fornatoro hit a double bringing home Cook and Conway, who were both on base.
Penelope Sanchez and
Jordan Acritani both hit singles to finish the inning on top, 5-0.
The Lions held the Falcons scoreless in the bottom of the 1st, and moved on to the 2nd inning.
Lindsay Cook managed a huge triple to get the juices flowing. On a wild pitch, Cook stole home and Tina Conway stole 3rd setting things up nicely for the Lions. Fornatoro made the perfect hit to send both women home. The inning closed with the score 8-0.
The Falcons were able to hold the Lions to 0 runs in the 3rd inning, and threatened to score in the bottom of the 4th. Bases were loaded with 1 out, but leave it to Fornatoro who struck out 2 girls consecutively to end the inning and the game. The women took the W 8-0 in 5 innings. Overall Fornatoro had 12 strike outs.
Going into game 2, the Lions were excited. They had great momentum, and felt that nothing was going to stop them.
In the 1st inning, Lopez was able to get on base, while
Lindsay Cook hit a single to bring her home. They put the Lions up 1-0. Fornatoro smacked a double to bring home Cook, and extended the lead 2-0. Moving to defense in the bottom of the 1st, both
Alicja Zaborowska and Fornatoro fielded ground balls for multiple outs.
At the top of the 3rd inning, Tina Conway hit a line drive up the middle to get herself on base. Fornatoro hit a double bringing in Cook and Conway.
NCC continued to hold DCC scoreless. In the top of the 7th inning, Cook sent home Lopez with a single and Conway managed a double, putting the women at a comfortable 6-0 lead. In the bottom of the 7th, Conway caught a line drive to stop loaded bases from scoring. Fornatoro ended the inning on a strike out, finishing the game 6-0.
So far this season, the Lions have only given up 1 run in 4 games, while averaging 6 points themselves. The Lions will be back home on Thursday to take on Orange Community College.
