(Selden, NY) Nassau Women's Softball took on Suffolk Community College in a double header
on Thursday. This was the second time the teams met in a 4 game series over a span of 2 days. The Lions were coming off of 2 disappointing losses and looking to take back a few wins from the Sharks.
In the top of the 1st, Tina Conway hit a single to get on base.
Geena Fornataro stepped to the plate and smacked a double to the outfield sending
Lindsay Cook and Conway home. The Lions were up 2-0.
Moving to the bottom of the 1st, things were looking up for the NCC. Pitcher Fornataro got the Lions off on the right foot with a strike, and Cook caught a fly ball in centerfield to end the inning. They managed to keep the Sharks to only 3 runs.
In the top of the 3rd,
Alicja Zaborowska and Conway both hit singles to get on base. Conway got stuck in a rundown, sacrificing herself to allow Zaborowska to score. The tally was 6-3, Suffolk.
The Lions fielding stopped the Sharks right in their tracks in the bottom of the 4th. Zaborowska made a catch in left field, then Conway stopped at 3rd.
Courtney Ludewig caught a line drive to mid-field which made 3 consecutive outs to end the inning.
Top of the 5th,
Lindsay Cook cracked a single to get on first. Conway, with her 3rd hit of the game, smacked a single down the middle, good enough to bump Cook over, and put the Lions within striking distance.
Jordan Acritani came to the rescue and hit a double pushing Cook in, and making the score 6-4.
Keeping Suffolk scoreless in the bottom of the 5th and 6th, the Lions knew the top of the 7th was all they had. Zaborowska hit a double to start things off. Fornataro hit Zaborowska in to make the score 6-5, but they just didn't have enough to get the last run, leaving Suffolk victorious.
Overall, NCC had 11 hits throughout the game, while SCC had 8. Both teams finished with 2 errors.
The second game was only went 5 innings as the Lions couldn't stop Suffolk. They defeated the Lions 15-0.
Next up Nassau will play Ocean County College on Sunday at home.
