Zaborowska Debuts as Pitcher Against Ocean County

(Garden City, NY) Softball took on Ocean County College at home on Sunday in a double header.

The Ocean County Vikings managed to score 2 runs in the top of the 1st inning. The Lions answered with Sildrany Lopez hitting a single. Alicja Zaborowska smacked a line drive to mid-field and advanced Lopez to 2nd. Tina Conway approached the plate, and managed a single to send Lopez home. Courtney Ludewig hit bomb to left field to knock in Conway and tie the score up, 2-2.

OCC scored 6 runs in the top of the 2nd. The Lions knew they had to make a stop. Cook served up a double to slide Lopez to 3rd base. Conway hit a single, bumping Lopez in to make the score 8-3, Ocean.

Bottom of the 4th and the Lions were doing everything they could to keep the game within reach. Cook stole her way around the bases and managed to score. With a total of 4 errors, NCC wasn't able to make the stop, and the Vikings took the win 12-4.

Moving on to the 2nd game of the evening, the Lions switched up their pitching and had Freshman Alicja Zaborowska debut. The Lions were fierce and kept their nose to the grind stone, but were defeated 22-4 in 5 innings.

Head Coach Kristine Abrams commented after the game, "I am extremely proud of Zaborowska. She had never pitched a true game before and has only had a handful of attempts in practice. She really gave her all, and I'm excited to watch her develop."

The Lions will take a much needed rest week, and be back in action on Saturday, April 21st at home against Brookdale Community College.
