(Clark, NJ) The Nassau Women's Soccer Team kicked off their 2021 season at Union County College today.
The two teams fought tooth and nail from the very beginning. It was an extremely physical game. So much so that in the first half a goal was disallowed from a corner kick off of a penalty in the box.
The Lions didn't back down though, even as they were trailing the Owls in the first half. They came out after halftime ready for revenge. In the 59th minute of the second half, Freshman forward Kara Deblasio scored to put Nassau on the board. Regrettably, Union was able to maneuver around Nassau and score 6 goals throughout the game, making the final score 6-1.
Outstanding players were leading scorer Kara Deblasio, Sophomore defender
Claudia Andrade, and Sophomore midfielder
Kelly Fogarty.
"Unfortunately, we lost a few key players during the game which made us have to react at the drop of a hat. We have a few weeks until our next match where we'll be able to rest up and reset. We just need to continue to put in the work and build on the team chemistry." commented Head Coach Chris Magaloudis post game.
Next up, the Lions will host Suffolk in their first home game of the season. Tune in on Wednesday, April 21st at 4 PM ET for the live stream event.
