"Hello Nassau Community College family. My name is Matthew Cohen. I'm currently a freshman in my second semester of the Spring 2022 academic term. I am honored to have been selected by Coach Cincotta to serve as the face of the NCC Lions Bowling team. I would like to take this opportunity to share my perception of what the team is like with you all. First, let's start with what motivated me to join the team in Fall 2021. I'm an alumni of Oceanside High School which is located on Long Island in New York. I was an active member of the Oceanside High School Bowling team for my freshman, sophomore and junior years at the high school. I bowled at Baldwin Lanes in Baldwin, and I competed with Oceanside against other local high schools like South Side High School from Rockville Center, Calhoun High School from Merrick, and several others. In my sophomore year of high school, I was the second best player on the team and I received an award for it. I really, really enjoyed being involved with the Oceanside High School Bowling team, and my heart will continue to hold a special place for both the team and the high school itself. Now that you know my background for being involved in academic bowling, I will describe my experience of the Nassau Community College Lions bowling team. As soon as I found out there was going to be a college bowling team for the first time in over a decade, I instantly contacted Coach Cincotta that I was interested in becoming involved. Coach Cincotta gave me the necessary paperwork which I filled out with my father and I joined the team. We practiced at Bowlero in Mineola, and since January, we have had several tournaments, specifically in New York and Connecticut, which concluded with a season championship in Lansing, Michigan, from March 3-5. I have made a new family on this team. Throughout the season, I have found that I have improved even more than when I was in high school. I had assistance from Coach Cincotta, assistant coach Danielle Merino, and Team Manager Roland Iadanza. They all played a major role in helping me build upon the stellar bowling skills I had acquired in high school to obtain that award in my sophomore year of high school. I am forever in debt to these amazing individuals are for helping me to make it this far. Being an active member of the Nassau Community College Lions bowling team has been a key highlight of my freshman year of college. I am already looking forward to returning for a round two with the team in the fall of this year. Once again, it is my heartfelt pleasure to share my insights about my experience on this amazing team at Nassau Community College. To the incoming freshmen of Fall 2022, I strongly encourage that you become participants on this team and make memories that you can hold onto for life. You will not regret it. Thank you.Â
