Esports Season Recap Thus Far

League of Legends Nassau Community College's League of Legends team continues its impressive 2024-2025 campaign after securing a commanding 2-0 playoff victory over Catawba College in the opening round of the postseason. The win follows a dominant regular season in which the Lions went 5-1, dropping only a single match and notching multiple clean sweeps.

Regular Season Recap

The Lions kicked off the year with a powerful showing, sweeping NorQuest College 2-0. The team made a statement early.

They followed that performance with another 2-0 sweep over Kennesaw State University.

In their third match, Nassau defeated Penn State Behrend 2-0, marking their third consecutive sweep.

The Lions faced their first and only regular-season loss in a tight series against Saint Leo Esports Varsity, falling 2-1. Nassau rebounded the following week with a hard-fought 2-1 win over Huntingdon College.

In the final match of the regular season, Nassau delivered another commanding performance, sweeping Binghamton University 2-0 to enter playoffs with strong momentum.

Postseason Performance

Entering the playoffs as the #11 seed, Nassau drew #22 Catawba College in the opening round. The Lions showed no signs of postseason jitters, taking a 2-0 series win with confidence and control.

Next up, the Lions face their toughest challenge of the season: a highly anticipated second-round matchup against the #6-seeded University of Michigan. A win would mark one of the program's most successful playoff runs to date.

Overwatch 2 The Nassau Community College Overwatch 2 team capped off a breakout regular season with a perfect 6-0 record, earning the #3 seed heading into the playoffs. The Lions showcased depth, resilience, and sharp in-game coordination throughout the campaign, earning hard-fought wins against a range of competitive programs. Despite falling in the opening round of the playoffs, Nassau's season remains a clear marker of the program's growth and national relevance.

Regular Season Recap

Nassau opened the season with a statement, sweeping Midwestern State University 3-0. Behind crisp communication and aggressive ult economy management, the Lions asserted themselves early, setting the tone for the weeks to follow.

In Week 2, they delivered a 3-1 victory over Emory & Henry College, with Sydney Goodwin and Tyler Ramirez anchoring key teamfights through map control and backline pressure.

One of the season's most exciting matchups came in Week 3 against Purdue White, where Nassau fought through five intense maps to come out on top 3-2. Ryan Koenig played a pivotal role in Nassau's clutch defensive holds and overtime plays.

The Lions continued to roll with a 3-1 win over the University of South Florida, maintaining their perfect record while further refining their synergy. DPS players Aidan Sharp and Kyle Perry helped swing key skirmishes, especially in the mid-fight phase.

Perhaps their grittiest win came in Week 5—a rematch against John Brown Esports. In a nail-biting 3-2 victory, Nassau executed late-game strategies with confidence and composure, reversing momentum and closing out with map dominance.

The regular season concluded with a clean 3-0 sweep over Keiser Jax OW2, locking in the team's sixth straight win and securing their place among the top seeds in the playoff bracket.

Postseason Performance

Entering the playoffs as the #3 seed, Nassau faced a tough draw in their first-round rematch against #14-seeded John Brown University—a team they had edged out just weeks earlier. This time, John Brown came in with adjustments, and Nassau struggled to find consistent openings, falling 0-3 in the series.

While the early exit was not the outcome the Lions had hoped for, their regular season accomplishments—and undefeated record up until playoffs—stand as a major milestone in the team's evolution.

Despite the stellar start, the team's postseason run was cut short in a surprising first-round loss to #16-seeded FIU GC.

Regular Season Recap

The Lions opened their season in commanding fashion with a 2-0 win over FIU GC, establishing early confidence in both their strategies and map control. Duelist Michael Maggi and initiator Thomas Jozef led the charge, creating early picks and opening up sites with precision.

Momentum continued to build in Week 2 with a 2-0 sweep over Assumption University, as controller Ryan Oconnell and sentinel Jessica Zahn anchored the team's post-plant setups and retakes with exceptional discipline.

Nassau's third win came against University of South Florida White, where their coordination and map rotations shined. Ethan Cheung and Matias Velasquez Pina played key support and flex roles, filling gaps and adapting fluidly across maps.

By mid-season, Nassau established itself as a defensive powerhouse with a 2-0 victory against GW Valorant, locking down angles and outmaneuvering their opponents with utility synergy and retake timing.

The team maintained its perfect form in Week 5, securing a 2-0 win over Gateway Technical College, followed by a clinical performance against Trine University to cap off the regular season.

The Lions completed the regular split undefeated, without dropping a single map—a testament to the team's structure, preparation, and talent across the board.

Postseason Performance
