Lions Take Down CCRI in Four Sets

Result

The Nassau Community College Lions earned their first win of the season with a 3-1 victory over the Community College of Rhode Island (25-13, 22-25, 25-19, 25-14) on Saturday afternoon at home. The Lions showed resilience, shaking off a dropped second set to win in convincing fashion. Powered by Miller's offense, Teel's leadership, and Ramlogan's defense, Nassau improves to 1-1 on the season and builds momentum heading into its next slate of matches.

How It Happened

  • Set 1 (25-13): Nassau set the tone early with a 9-2 opening run, sparked by back-to-back kills from Rhianna Miller and Hannah Clarke, and an ace from Jenna Ramlogan. After forcing a CCRI timeout at 13-4, the Lions kept up the pressure with three straight service aces from Jocelyn Teel to push the lead to double digits. Nassau's aggressive serving and steady net play closed out the frame comfortably.

  • Set 2 (22-25): The Lions appeared in control again, racing out to a 10-3 advantage after consecutive Miller aces and kills from Clarke and Takiya Wilder. But CCRI stormed back, using a 7-0 run to tie the score at 12-12. The Knights capitalized on Nassau errors down the stretch and pulled ahead 22-19. Despite late kills from Miller and Ramlogan, CCRI sealed the set 25-22 to even the match.

  • Set 3 (25-19): Nassau regrouped in the third. Early miscues had them trailing 8-4, but a big run behind Wilder's serving, including two aces, shifted momentum. Miller and Alanice Rios delivered consecutive kills to put Nassau up 17-16, and the Lions closed on an 8-3 spurt. Miller's back-row attack and Rios' steady finish sealed the 25-19 win.

  • Set 4 (25-14): The Lions controlled the finale from the outset. Teel's precise setting and serving fueled a 10-3 surge highlighted by three kills from Alexandra Pierre-Saint. After a CCRI timeout, Teel continued her serving streak with multiple aces and set up back-to-back Pierre-Saint kills to extend the lead to 20-8. Miller's finishing swings put the match away, giving Nassau a decisive 25-14 clincher.
