The Nassau Community College men's soccer team earned a Region XV win over Borough of Manhattan Community College by a score of 2-3 on Tuesday evening. Behind Bryan Hernandez' penalty save and Mohamed Alsayedi's set-piece goal, the Lions earned a shutout win and moves to 2-2 on the season.
How It Happened
First Half:
- Both teams battled through a physical opening 45 minutes, with chances on both sides. Nassau goalkeeper Bryan Hernandez made three key saves to keep the match scoreless, while BMCC's Brandon Codallos saw a 29th-minute penalty kick denied by Hernandez before striking the crossbar seconds later on a rebound attempt.
Second Half:
- In the 67th minute, Mohamed Alsayedi broke the deadlock with a highlight-reel header, finishing Alexis Gomez's free kick from 35 yards out to put the Lions in front.
- Just four minutes later, Nassau doubled its advantage. After BMCC's goalkeeper fouled a Lions attacker inside the box, Cristhian Ramos Monsalve converted the penalty kick in the 71st minute to make it 2-0.
- Hernandez and the defense took care of the rest, turning away multiple BMCC chances in the closing stages to secure the clean sheet.
