The Nassau Community College football team built a 24-0 lead and held off a late rally to defeat Hocking College 24-20 on Saturday afternoon at Mitchel Field. Nassau controlled the first three quarters behind Harris's ground game and a ball-hawking defense, then showed resilience in surviving Hocking's late surge. The victory improves the Lions to 3-1 overall to start the season.
How It Happened
-
First Quarter: Nassau struck first when Matias Perez Herrera drilled a 48-yard field goal midway through the quarter to put the Lions up 3-0.
-
Second Quarter: The Lions extended their advantage with a methodical 15-play, 74-yard drive capped by Elijah Outlaw's 1-yard quarterback sneak. Minutes later, Eriq Harris broke free for a 44-yard touchdown run, sending Nassau into halftime with a 17-0 lead.
-
Third Quarter: After Makail Muhammad's interception return put Nassau deep in Hocking territory, Harris powered in from seven yards out for his second score of the game, making it 24-0 late in the third.
-
Fourth Quarter: Hocking stormed back with three touchdowns in the final six minutes. Luke Farris scored on a 15-yard keeper before connecting with Eric Thomas (29 yards) and DeAngelo Fuller (6 yards) to trim the deficit to 24-20. Nassau's defense made the final stop, and Harris's late first-down run allowed the Lions to run out the clock.
