Nassau Community College delivered a strong overall performance at the Will Abele Men's Invitational, highlighted by two individual champions and multiple podium finishes across the weight classes. Competing against a deep 12-team field, the Lions placed third overall as a team, finishing with 154 points and trailing only Ursinus College and Western New England University in the standings.
How It Happened
Nassau's tournament success was anchored by championship performances at both ends of the lineup. At 125 pounds, Shane Dobbins controlled his bracket from start to finish, earning a first-place finish with consistent offensive pressure and strong positioning throughout the day. Dobbins capped his run with a 8-3 decisive finals victory to claim the title.
At 184 pounds, Jonathan Hoffman turned in another dominant performance, rolling through his bracket to secure Nassau's second individual championship. Hoffman dictated the pace in each bout and finished his run with a convincing 10-0 finals win.
The Lions also produced two runner-up finishes. Joseph Ramirez advanced to the championship bout at 133 pounds, finishing second after a strong showing throughout the bracket. At 157 pounds, John De La Rosa battled through a competitive field to earn a second-place finish and valuable team points.
Additional scoring came from several deep tournament runs. John Fox placed fourth at 141 pounds, while Kenaje Demosthene finished fourth at 165 pounds, recording a technical fall victory during his run through the bracket. Dominick Albertelli added a fifth-place finish at 285 pounds, and Noah Foster rounded out Nassau's scoring with an eighth-place finish at 197 pounds. With wrestlers placing across eight weight classes, Nassau secured third place in the team standings.
