Nassau Competes at Wagner Invitational

Nassau Competes at Wagner Invitational at Ocean Breeze

The Nassau men's indoor track and field team turned in a full slate of performances at the Wagner Invitational, held at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in Staten Island, gaining valuable early-season experience against a deep field of collegiate and club competition.

Sprints

Nassau showed depth across the short sprints, led by multiple freshmen gaining collegiate race experience. In the 60-meter dash, Shamir Lisbon paced the Lions with a time of 7.30, while Andre Saunders clocked 7.92, Charles Lurch ran 7.74, and Khasim Plowden finished in 8.18.

The Lions continued their sprint efforts in the 200 meters, where Charles Lurch posted a time of 24.66.

In the 400 meters, Nassau had five athletes compete. Jayden Ashley led the way with a 53.08, followed closely by Mark Roberts in 53.78. Cahill Louis ran 56.04, Andre Saunders finished in 58.32, and Khasim Plowden rounded out the group at 1:02.04.

Middle Distance

Nassau's middle-distance runners also made an impact. In the 800-meter run, Jeremiyah Burch turned in a strong performance, finishing in 1:57.37, while William Lane recorded a time of 2:14.89.

The Lions were represented in the 1-mile run by Anthony Sanchez, who completed the race in 4:49.12, continuing his early indoor season buildup.

Field Events

Nassau earned solid results in the field events, highlighted by Shamir Lisbon's performance in the long jump, where he recorded a best mark of 6.31 meters (20-8.50) to place 15th overall in a competitive field.

In the high jump, Paris Johnson delivered one of Nassau's top field finishes of the meet, clearing 1.87 meters (6-1.50) to tie for sixth place.


Overall, the Wagner Invitational provided Nassau with an important measuring stick early in the indoor season. With strong freshman representation across sprints, middle distance, and field events, the Lions continue to build momentum as they move forward into the heart of the indoor schedule.
