Nassau Community College men's soccer continued its unbeaten start to the season with a 6-2 victory over Rockland Community College. The Lions scored three times in each half and improved to 7-0-1 overall and 5-0-1 in conference play, while Rockland fell to 3-4 overall and in conference play.
How It Happened
Nassau controlled much of the action in the opening half, generating eight shots while limiting Rockland to three. The Lions repeatedly put pressure on the Rockland defense early, earning seven first-half corner kicks. Raymond Zavala forced a save in the 11th minute, Kevin Medina put another attempt on target in the 20th, and Zavala tested goalkeeper Cristian Molina Aguilar again in the 24th minute.
The pressure finally paid off in the 28th minute. Following an Ismael Garcia corner kick, Benjamin Perez put Nassau on the board at 27:29, with Zavala and Garcia each earning an assist on the opening goal.
Nassau then broke the game open just before halftime. Kevin Reynoso Perez, who entered the match in the 38th minute, scored his first goal at 42:47 to double the Lions' advantage. Just 28 seconds later, Reynoso Perez struck again at 43:15, giving Nassau two goals in less than half a minute and sending the Lions into halftime with a 3-0 lead.
Reynoso Perez picked up right where he left off after the break. At 49:28, Zavala set him up for his third goal of the match, completing the hat trick and extending Nassau's lead to 4-0.
Rockland responded at 54:51 when Nubens Malvoisin scored off an assist from Loovensky Jean to cut the deficit to 4-1. Rockland continued to push forward and eventually pulled within two when Akeem Wynter scored in the 70th minute off an assist from Youmindjy Chrysostome, making it 4-2.
Nassau quickly ended any hopes of a Rockland comeback. In the 76th minute, Zavala found Reynoso Perez again, and Reynoso Perez buried his fourth goal of the afternoon to restore the Lions' three-goal advantage at 5-2.
The Lions added one final goal in the closing minutes. After Garcia forced Molina Aguilar into a save at 86:11 and then delivered another corner kick moments later, Garcia found the back of the net himself at 88:51 to complete the 6-2 victory.
