Nassau Community College men's volleyball opened its season in strong fashion, earning back-to-back victories over Middlesex College and Roxbury Community College at the Monroe Athletic Complex. The Lions rallied for a four-set win against Middlesex before cruising to a straight-sets sweep of Roxbury.
How It Happened
Against Middlesex on Friday night, Nassau dropped the opening set 25–22 after a tightly contested frame that featured 11 ties. Middlesex capitalized late behind strong service runs, but Nassau responded immediately in the second set. The Lions jumped out early behind Thomas Wildeman's serving and Tristan Harrison's offense, opening a quick lead and never looking back in a 25–17 win.
Momentum fully shifted in the third set as Nassau hit .130 as a team and pulled away midway through the frame. Dillon Wallace and Brandon Barrios provided key kills during an extended run that helped the Lions take the set 25–15. Nassau closed the match in the fourth set, finishing with its best offensive efficiency of the night (.200) and pulling away late to secure a 25–20 win.
The following afternoon, Nassau carried that momentum into its matchup with Roxbury, dominating from the opening serve. The Lions raced to a 25–5 first-set victory behind an aggressive serving performance that included multiple aces from Dom Cieleski, Thomas Wildeman, Johncarlo Rivera, and Steven Mejia. Nassau continued to control play in the second set, winning 25–11 as the bench contributed key points and extended rallies.
In the third set, Roxbury showed improved resistance, but Nassau remained in command. Aitor Nunez, Dillon Wallace, and Joseph Woods combined to close out the match with a 25–12 win and completing the sweep.
