Nassau Community College secured a key Region XV victory on Saturday afternoon, defeating Borough of Manhattan Community College 66-62. The Lions improved to 12–10 overall and 12–6 in conference play with the win. Nassau's defensive rebounding, timely three-point shooting, and late-game execution proved decisive in a physical conference matchup. The Lions built a double-digit cushion in the second half and showed composure down the stretch to withstand BMCC's late surge. With balanced scoring and strong contributions from the starting lineup, Nassau continues to build momentum as Region XV play intensifies.
How It Happened
The first half was tightly contested from the opening tip. BMCC grabbed an early 6-4 lead before Isaiah Blunt answered with a strong finish inside and Camren Welker knocked down a jumper to even the score. Nassau began to settle in midway through the half, sparked by Amir Reushell-Sanders attacking the paint and Matthias Martin converting inside during a key 10-4 stretch.
With just over four minutes remaining in the half, Martin knocked down a jumper off a Giuliano Camporini assist to extend the Lions' lead to five. Reushell-Sanders added another layup in transition, and Martin closed the half at the free-throw line to give Nassau a 24–20 advantage at the break.
The Lions created separation early in the second half. Glen Mcbeth Jr opened the scoring with a three-pointer, and Evan Pasik followed with a tip-in after an offensive rebound. McBeth connected again from deep at the 17:58 mark, pushing Nassau's lead to double digits. A 13-2 run midway through the half, highlighted by Reushell-Sanders' inside scoring and Welker's strong drives to the basket, gave Nassau its largest lead of the game at 13 points.
BMCC refused to go away, cutting the deficit to four in the final minute after a pair of three-pointers and late free throws. With 12 seconds remaining and Nassau leading 64-62, Welker calmly sank two free throws to extend the lead. Nassau secured the defensive rebound on the final possession to close out the victory.
