Nassau Community College men's volleyball continued its strong season with a four-set win over Brookdale Community College, defeating the visitors 3-1 (25-14, 26-28, 25-14, 25-15)Â at home. The Lions improved to 17-2 overall, using a balanced offensive attack and dominant stretches of serving to control the match.
How It Happened
Set 1 -Â Nassau 25, Brookdale 14
After an early 2-2 tie, Nassau quickly took control behind a dominant service run from Thomas Wildeman. The sophomore outside hitter recorded multiple service aces during a 7-0 run, pushing the Lions ahead 8-2 and forcing Brookdale out of system.
Dom Cieleski orchestrated the offense efficiently, setting up kills from Joseph Woods, Tristan Harrison, and Johncarlo Rivera as Nassau continued to extend the lead. Midway through the set, Brandon Barrios and Harrison added key points, while Nassau's blocks, led by Woods and Rivera, shut down Brookdale's attack.
The Lions closed the set on a strong note, finishing with consecutive points off Brookdale errors to secure a convincing 25-14 win.
Set 2 -Â Brookdale 28, Nassau 26
The second set turned into a battle. Brookdale jumped out to an early lead, capitalizing on Nassau errors and strong play from Logan Ash. Nassau responded behind Woods and Harrison, who combined for multiple kills to tie the set at 10-10.
The teams traded points throughout the middle portion of the set. Wildeman added a key service ace to give Nassau a 12-10 advantage, and later kills from Rivera and Woods helped the Lions erase a late deficit.
Trailing 22-19, Nassau rallied behind back-to-back kills from Woods and a Wildeman ace to tie the set at 22-22. The teams continued to exchange points down the stretch, with Harrison delivering a clutch kill to tie it at 26-26. However, Brookdale closed the set with consecutive points to take it 28-26.
Set 3 3Â Nassau 25, Brookdale 14
Nassau responded emphatically in the third set. The Lions opened on a 10-2 run, fueled by strong serving from Rivera, who recorded back-to-back aces to break the set open.
Cieleski continued to distribute effectively, finding Woods and Barrios for consistent scoring. Harrison added another service ace, and Nassau's defense limited Brookdale's offensive rhythm.
The Lions maintained control throughout, closing out the set with a dominant 25-14 win to regain the match lead.Â
Set 4 -Â Nassau 25, Brookdale 15
Brookdale kept the fourth set competitive early, tying the score at 5-5. Nassau then took over behind a decisive run led by Harrison and Wildeman.
Harrison sparked the surge with a service ace and multiple kills, while Woods added key points from the right side. Nassau extended the lead to 11-5 and never looked back.
Late in the set, Cieleski sealed the match with back-to-back service aces, pushing Nassau to match point. A final Brookdale attack error gave the Lions a 25-15 win and clinched the match.
