Nassau Community College baseball put together a strong all-around day on April 18, sweeping a doubleheader against the Broncos with a 10-7 win in Game 1 and a 7-5 victory in Game 2. Across the two games, the Lions combined for 17 runs and 25 hits while getting key late outs on the mound to complete the sweep. The Lions improve to 10-8 overall and 10-3 in conference play, currently at third place in Region XV.
How It Happened
Game 1: Nassau 10, Broncos 7
The Broncos struck first on a solo home run in the bottom of the first, but Nassau answered quickly in the second inning. Alex Darzano singled to start the rally, and after hits from Chris Stumpf and Ryan Jazylo, Patrick Sebber delivered a two-run double to put the Lions in front 2-1.Â
Nassau kept applying pressure in the middle innings. The Lions scored two more in the fourth, added two in the fifth, and pushed across another run in the sixth. Sebber stayed in the middle of the offense, finishing with four RBI, while Darzano, Michael Jazylo, and Stumpf all helped keep innings alive with multi-hit performances.Â
The Lions built their lead to 10-3 before the Broncos made things interesting in the seventh with a four-run rally. Nassau held on behind Dylan Cantwell, who worked 6.2 innings and struck out 10, and Kian Behravan, who recorded the final out to lock down the win.
Game 2: Nassau 7, Broncos 5
Nassau jumped in front immediately in the nightcap. Patrick Sebber walked, Daniel Reynolds was hit by a pitch, and Chris Lonergan reached on a bunt single before Aidan Quinn lined a two-run single to left for a 2-0 lead in the first inning.Â
The Broncos got one back in the second, but Nassau answered with two runs in the fourth and another in the fifth to extend the lead. Quinn drove in two runs, Reynolds added a run-scoring triple, and Chris Stumpf continued his strong day with three hits and two runs scored.Â
The Broncos made their biggest push in the sixth inning, scoring three times to cut the deficit, but Nassau's pitching and defense steadied from there. Michael Jazylo gave the Lions five innings on the mound, and Chris Marano followed with three innings of relief to earn the win and help close out the 7-5 victory.
