The 2026 season was one of dominance, consistency, and championship success for Nassau Community College men's volleyball, as the Lions established themselves as one of the top programs in the NJCAA from start to finish.
Nassau finished the year with an impressive 21-6 overall record, including a perfect 10-0 mark in Region XV play. The Lions were unbeatable on their home court, going 11-0 in Garden City, and showcased their ability to win in any environment with a combined 10 victories in away and neutral matches.
The season began with early challenges against national-level competition, but Nassau quickly found its rhythm. After a competitive opening stretch, the Lions surged through their conference schedule, stringing together dominant performances that highlighted their depth, discipline, and balanced attack. Nassau swept through Region XV opponents, consistently winning in straight sets and controlling matches with efficiency on both offense and defense.
Statistically, Nassau was one of the most complete teams in the country. The Lions averaged 10.95 kills per set while hitting .217 as a team, significantly outperforming opponents who were held to a .125 hitting percentage. Their offensive system, led by setter Dom Cieleski (827 assists, 8.80 assists per set), powered a dynamic attack that featured multiple scoring threats.
Thomas Wildeman led the team with 255 kills and was a force all over the court, adding 90 service aces and 198 digs. Johncarlo Rivera delivered one of the most efficient seasons in the NJCAA, totaling 183 kills on a .313 hitting percentage while contributing at the net with 76 total blocks. Joseph Woods (209 kills), Brandon Barrios (.309 hitting percentage), and Dillon Wallace (105 kills) added further depth to a well-rounded offensive unit.
Defensively, Nassau excelled with 10.12 digs per set and 1.50 blocks per set. Ismael Nunez anchored the back row with a team-high 211 digs, while Wildeman and Tristan Harrison provided strong all-around defensive support. At the net, Rivera, Woods, and Barrios helped establish a consistent blocking presence that disrupted opposing offenses all season long.
The Lions' dominance carried into the postseason, where they captured the Region XV Championship in convincing fashion. Nassau swept both Kingsborough Community College and Borough of Manhattan Community College to secure the title and punch their ticket to the national tournament.
At the NJCAA National Tournament, Nassau continued to prove it belonged among the nation's elite. The Lions opened with a decisive straight-sets victory over Atlantic Cape Community College in the quarterfinals, showcasing their efficiency and control. Nassau ultimately finished the tournament with a strong showing against top-ranked competition earning themselves a 4th place national finish, concluding the season with valuable experience on the national stage.
Throughout the season, Nassau's identity was clear—relentless serving pressure, balanced offensive production, and disciplined defense. The Lions combined depth, experience, and consistency to produce one of the program's most successful campaigns, highlighted by an undefeated conference record and a Region XV championship.
The 2026 season not only added another title to Nassau's history, but also set the foundation for continued success as the Lions remain a force within the NJCAA volleyball landscape.
