Coach William Martino enters his sixth season as the Kicking Coach and Special Teams Coordinator at Nassau Community College, where he has made significant contributions to the development of long and short snappers, punters, place kickers, and kickoff specialists. His role encompasses overseeing player development, managing daily operations, and devising play schemes for the kicking special teams unit. Additionally, he has held the positions of Special Teams Quality Control Coach and Special Teams Recruiter.
During his tenure at Nassau Community College, Coach Martino has been instrumental in revitalizing the kicking special teams program. His efforts have led to notable accomplishments, including the emergence of two NJCAA All-Americans; a 2022 Second Team All-American kicking specialist who broke multiple school records, and a 2023 First Team All-American punter who was a third year transfer from Stony Brook University. Both players are on track to join FBS/FCS football programs in the future. Under Coach Martino's tutelage the special teams unit is set to thrive this year with another potential All-American kicking specialist.Â
Coach Martino's expertise extends beyond Nassau Community College. He served as the Special Teams Coordinator at SUNY Maritime College for three years, where his leadership transformed the program from last place to first place in the Eastern Collegiate Football Conference. Under his guidance, the team earned twelve ECFC weekly conference awards, two NCAA D-III weekly awards, two all-conference first-team awards, two Division III All-American recognitions, NFL's Draft Diamonds recognition, and even produced a professional place kicker.
His extensive coaching experience also includes roles as an Offensive/Defensive Line Coach and Special Teams Coach at Glen Cove High School, Seaford High School, Eastport South Manor High School on Long Island, and Darien High School in Connecticut. His diverse background underscores his versatility and commitment to football at various levels.
With a remarkable 20 years of football coaching experience at both high school and collegiate levels, Coach Martino also boasts 35Â years of football officiating experience. As a head referee in public, private, and Catholic high school leagues, and occasionally at the collegiate level, he brings a comprehensive understanding of the game to his coaching role.
Before his coaching and officiating career, Coach Martino was an active player in high school, college, and semi-pro football as a punter and kicker. Professionally, he works as a Senior Construction Project Manager and Designer for a food service construction company.
