Nassau Community College Director of Athletics Kerri Ann McTiernan announced the appointment of Jhaleel Oswald head coach of the institution's football program ahead of the 2024 season.

Oswald – a 2014 graduate of NCC – served as defensive and special teams coordinator under Jamel Ramsay since 2021.

"I'm excited to return to one of my alma maters as head coach," said Oswald. "The program means a lot to me and I am proud to be a product of the community college system. I'm excited for the future and the things we can accomplish."

Oswald played 12 times for Nassau between the 2012 and 2013 seasons and was a team captain his sophomore year. He helped the Lions win the 2013 Toro Bowl and earned an associate's degree in liberal arts in 2014. Upon graduation, Oswald transferred to LIU Post where he made 25 appearances and won Northeast-10 titles in 2014 and 2016. He collected All-NE-10 Second-Team accolades as a senior.

"Our alumni laid a foundation of competitive excellence here at NCC and I am pleased to announce Jhaleel, a proud Nassau alumnus, as our head football coach and ambassador for the College," said McTiernan.

"His commitment and passion for the game, along with his love for our institution, is a winning combination that will strengthen our football program and support our efforts to ensure student success in athletics and academics," she added. "As a long-standing member of the Nassau athletics family, Coach Oswald will further our connection with former Lions and is ready to build on the winning legacy they helped create."

Upon returning to Garden City as defensive coordinator, Oswald helped NCC finish as national runner-up in 2021. During his three years in the role, he helped NCC players develop their technical skills, implemented coaching strategies, and assisted in recruiting student-athletes.

Before coaching at NCC, Oswald was an assistant football coach at Campus Magnet High Schools from 2018 to 2020.  Additionally, he was a youth football coach at Offense-Defense Youth Camps from 2017 to 2019.
