(Garden City, NY) Women's Volleyball hosted a double header against Borough of Manhattan Community College and the Fashion Institute of Technology on Saturday in the Nassau Main Gym. The Lions were coming off of an impressive 3 game win streak, and looking to add to that.
First up was BMCC. NCC came out hot and ready to play. They took the first set handily, 25-10. But unfortunately, they faltered while BMCC found their groove and lost the second set 19-25. The Lions knew they needed to get back on top if they were going to win this one. They had to come from behind, but were able to pull off a win, with a close finish of 25-23. It was a rally between both teams to see who was going to take the fourth set. The Lions fought tooth and nail, but BMCC took the last 4 points to secure the win, 21-25. This was it. The Lions had been in the same situation only a few nights before this so they were able to hold their composure to lock down the win, 16-14!Â
Genesis Zepeda had an impressive total of 37 assists and 13 digs, while
Kiara Tibbs tallied 14 kills, 1 block solo, and 1 block assist. The Lions were just getting warmed up as they moved on to game number 2.
The FIT Tigers were coming in fresh, which the Lions weren't expecting. They took a loss in the first set, 20-25. Head Coach
Kristine Abrams made a few small changes to the lineup, which helped recharge NCC, and the Lions took over from there. They swept the Tigers for the next three matches, capturing the win! Set 2 finished (25-20), set 3 (25-16), and set 4 (25-14).
Destiny Knox stepped in with 14 kills and 15 digs.
"Overall, it was a long, but successful day." commented Coach Abrams after the final set against FIT. "The women have really got something going, and the rest of the coaches and I couldn't be more excited to be along for the ride."
The Lions will take a few days before their next match on October 7th against Westchester Community College in Selden, NY.
