(Poughkeepsie, NY) This past weekend, the Lions faced the Dutchess Community College Falcons. This was the last regular season game before the NJCAA Division III Tournament starts. The Lions have won their last 9 games, and are looking forward to the next few weeks.
The coaches decided to switch things up, and put in a different line up than usual to find the best possible combination before the tournament. Within the first 15 minutes,
Kayla Murphy scored the first goal on a breakaway run. Utilizing the outside mid fielders, the Lions were completing solid passes, and moving the ball quickly. They had a number of opportunities to score on goal in the first half, but weren't quiet able to convert them to points.
However, everything changed in the second half, when
Lisa Maybie scored off a rebound from a defender. That got the goals flowing again.
Hannah Woodward passed an amazing cross into the box, where Murphy was patiently waiting to header in the third goal.Â
Woodward turned around and scored a goal of her own just inside the 18 yard line off of a Dutchess defender.
Maya Jones also got in on the action, and found herself in the perfect position to volley the ball right into the top corner of the net.Â
Woodward put a lot of pressure on the defense, and was able to slip past them to capture Nassau's 6th goal. In the last few minutes of the game, Melony Rodriguez got the ball to Murphy, who drove toward the goal, and found the bottom left hand corner wide open. The final score was 7-0.
The Lions will take the next few days to prepare for the NJCAA Division III Region XV Championships that will take place this Wednesday.
