Lions Volleyball Finishes Off a Winning Weekend

(Selden, NY) This weekend, the #3 Lions traveled to Selden, New York to compete against Orange Community College and Sullivan Community College. The Lions were coming off of a win against Suffolk only days before, and they were looking to use that energy to capture another few wins.

First up was #5 in the region, Orange. The Lions dominated the first game 25-16. The Colts came back in the second set, but it was still no match for NCC as they finished 25-20. Orange played a tough third game, and gave the Lions a run for the win, but they fell short, and the Lions took over finishing 25-22.

Emily Angelastro had a total of 19 kills, while Emily Kaufmann had 6 kills and 11 digs. Genesis Zepeda lead kills and digs with 8 and 14, respectively.

Next up was Sullivan Community College. The Lions put the Generals away relatively quickly. The first match was settled 25-11. As the games went on the Lions confidence grew. The second set was finished 25-9, and the third 25-12.

Destiny Knox tallied 7 kills. Angelastro was back at it again with 18 digs and 7 intense aces. In kills, Destiny Hernandez had 6, while Kiara Tibbs counted 12.

Head Coach Kristine Abrams commented after the games, "I saw so much progress in the women today. I saw them play with intention, and make decisions based on that. This is an excellent part of the season to see continued growth. We are very excited for whats to come in the next few weeks."

After this weekend, the Lions are hoping to move into 2nd place in the region. This week will be a deciding factor for them as they take on Queensborough Community College, who they narrowly lost to in a nail biting 5 game series earlier in the season.
