(Loch Sheldrake, NY) Last Saturday the Women's Basketball Team hit the road to take on the Sullivan Generals.
The Lions came out strong, and took an 18-14 lead in the first quarter. Tough Nassau defense put pressure on the Generals, and held them to only 8 points in the second quarter. Going into halftime the Lions led 31-22.
Sullivan came into the second half with fierce determination, but NCC held them at bay outscoring them 14-12 in the third quarter. A minute into the last quarter Sullivan flipped a switch. They went on an explosive run scoring 21 points to take their first lead of the game. With three minutes left to go,
Nicole McCann hit a perfect 3-pointer to make it a 2 point game.
Kashianna Wynter made a last second bucket with only 37 seconds left on the clock to tie up the game. Sullivan drove down the court in the last 30 seconds, and managed to find the rim, clenching the win for the Generals 55-53.
Leading the team was Wynter who finished with a team high of 17 points. She was 6 for 12 from the field.
Victoria Mercado wasn't far behind with 14 points, 7 rebounds, and 5 assists.
Niyah Ellis had a big game by helping the team with 11 total rebounds. She also lead the team defensively with 7 blocks. As a team NCC shot 50% from the free throw line.
The Lions will be back at home on Tuesday night as they take on Hostos Community College.
