(Garden City, NY)
Jamel Ramsay brings over a decade of college and high school football expertise to Nassau Community College.
Seven of those years were spent at LIU Post in Brookville, N.Y., where Ramsay was both a player and coach. His most recent stint in with the Pioneers in 2016 was one of marked success, as he served as both wide-receivers coach and Sports Psychology consultant, helping the team to the first 12-win season in program history, a conference championship, and an appearance in the second round of the NCAA Division II playoffs.
This followed a stellar playing career at Post, where Ramsay was a scholarship player and three-year starter from 2005-07, winning three consecutive conference championships and two appearances in the NCAA playoffs. An all-conference selection, Ramsay was also impressive in the classroom as a two-year Football Scholar Athlete of the Year.
In between stays in Brookville, Ramsay also spent five seasons as the head coach at Paul D. Schreiber High School in Port Washington, N.Y. He mentored the Vikings from a turnaround 0-8 season to back-to-back 7-1 seasons, and was named New York Jets Coach of the week in October of 2013.
He also serves as co-owner and trainer at Port Fitness Studio in Port Washington, N.Y.
Ramsay received his bachelor's degree in Broadcasting and Communications in 2008 from LIU Post, and followed with a dual master's degree in Sports Psychology and Sports Administration from Lock Haven University in 2016. He currently resides in Elmont, N.Y.
Coach Ramsay's goal is to continue to build on Nassau Community College Football's rich history and tradition in the National Junior College Athletic Association. With 20 Bowl Appearances, decades of being ranked nationally and over 60 players with professional football contracts, NCC football has long been a desirable destination for some of Nassau's best home grown talent as well as out of town players. Ramsay is looking forward to competing and building a positive relationship with the Nassau Community, as well as making sure Nassau players are receiving the training and education that they need to be successful in the future. As Head Coach of the Nassau Lions, Ramsay is working tirelessly to return the program to dominance.
