Lions Hold Monroe Scoreless and Become Victorious

Box Score (Garden City, NY) The Women's Soccer Team hosted Monroe Community College on their home field. With the weather overcast and drizzling, it was the perfect setting for a Nassau win. The Lions were coming off of a difficult weekend, loosing two close games in the Howard Community College Dragon Invitational. But every experience has a silver lining, and the experience from this weekend helped prepare the women for this match up.

The Lions came out of the gate a little bit uneasy, but within the first 5 minutes of the game, Kayla Murphy found the back of the net, putting the Lions up 1-0! Murphy lit the fire, and the rest of the team simply followed suit. Hannah Woodward, Diana Lemus, and Haley Schmidt all scored impressive goals, bringing the score to 4-0 before the end of the first half!

Coming back to finish the second half of the game, the Lions didn't let up, and kept the pressure on. With such a lead, Head Coach Chris Megaloudis decided to move around a few chess pieces, and see how the ladies gelled then. Briana Polidora was moved up to offense where she was able to make a lot of movement. Lisa Maybe had a break away drive, and brought the ball down the line. She sent a beautiful cross pass right to Polidora who headed the ball in for a Lions goal! Lemus and Woodward each had another goal as well, bringing the total score to 7-0.

The defense was holding tough as well, stopping everything that was shot their way. With only a few minutes left, Maya Jones was taken out of goal, and put in a wing position. She took control of the field, and soared down the sideline. Before anyone knew it - Jones took a shot on goal, and made it! The final score was 8-0, Lions.

"I'm over the moon with how we played today. Although we will capitalize on the positives of today, we will still review any negatives to continue to improve as a team" commented Coach Megaloudis.

The Lions will play Suffolk County on Thursday at home.
