Softball Falls in Double Header to Suffolk

(Garden City, NY) Last Thursday, the NCC Lions took on the Suffolk Community College Sharks in a double header.
Nassau was scoreless in the first game until the bottom of the 3rd inning where Lindsay Cook got the Lions off on the right foot with a single. Courtney Ludewig was up next and hit a solid single getting herself on base and bringing Cook home to score their first run of the game. Tina Conway stepped up to the plate and hit a single to advance Ludewig to 3rd. In an exciting turn of events, Ludewig stole home to put the score 11-2.

The Lions just couldn't quiet find their groove and tallied 10 errors. Suffolk continued to dominate, finishing the game in the 5th inning, 15-2. NCC Pitcher Geena Fornataro threw an impressive total of 10 strikes throughout the game.

On to the second game of the double header, the Lions worked to hold off the Sharks as best they could. They were down 9 going into the bottom of the 3rd when Jordan Acritani hit a triple to help ignite the fire. Sildrany Lopez brought Acritani home with a bunt, making the score 9-1. Moving on to the bottom of the 4th, Tina Conway started off the inning with a single, followed by Courtney Ludewig, who hit a double. Geena Fornataro snagged an RBI by hitting a single to bring Conway and Ludewig home. The score was now 9-3.

In the bottom of the 6th, the Lions were still fighting as they managed to hold the Sharks scoreless in the top of the 6th. Conway hit a single and then stole 2nd base off a wild pitch to the catcher. Geena Fornataro had another single to bring home Conway and make the score 10-4. The Lions just weren't quiet close enough to close the gap, and SCC took home the win 12-4. Geena Fornataro completed 7 strike outs.
The Lions will face the Sharks again this Saturday in Selden, NY.
