(Garden City, NY) Nassau hosted Monroe on Tuesday night in game 1 of a 4 game series.
The Lions fired up the offense in the bottom of the 1st inning. To start, the Monroe pitcher walked both
Marino Sorbara and
John Capozzoli. TJ Toscano took the plate and singled on a 0-1 count, pushing both Lions in and putting them up 2-0. Mike Iacobellis grounded out to 2nd base and advanced Toscano to 3rd. Monroe walked
Brian Perez just before
Vincent Napolitano hit a single through the left side to send Toscano home. The score was now 3-0. Napolitano stole 2nd, and scored on the next hit from Ali Ghiraz. By the top of the 2nd the Lions were up 5-0.
The rest of the game was relatively low scoring. In the bottom of the 5th, NCC tallied 3 more runs making the final score 10-0.
Sorbaro went 2 for 3 at the plate to lead Nassau in hits. Napolitano led number of bases stolen with 2. Pitcher
Anthony Pristera was the star standout of the game as he didn't allow a single run by Monroe and only tallied 3 hits. He struck out 7 total Mustangs.
Nassau will see Monroe again on Friday as they continue the series.
