(Garden City, NY) Nassau Softball hosted the Brookdale Jersey Blues on Saturday for a double header. This was the first match up of the season for the two teams.
To start the game, the Jersey Blues snuck in 4 runs to take an early lead. In the bottom of the 1st,
Sildrany Lopez helped get the ball rolling with a single to get on base.
Geena Fornataro hit a single to send Lopez home and get the Lions on the board.
Brookdale didn't let up, however. They scored 3 in the 2nd inning and 5 in the 3rd. The Lions tried as they might to play catch up. There were a few great plays, like
Courtney Ludewig's single to right center and Fornataro's triple up the middle that were highlights for the Lions. But they couldn't pull out the win. Brookdale took the victory 15-1.
Pitcher Fornataro had a total of 3 strikeouts. There were 6 errors for Nassau in the field.
In game 2, the Lions still couldn't quiet find their groove. The coaches switched up pitchers giving
Alicja Zaborowska the reigns. She threw an excellent game showing some great improvement from previous weeks. Fornataro came in to relieve her after 3 innings. Fornataro completed 5 strike outs in total to close out the game. The final score was 11-0, Brookdale.
Next up for Nassau Softball is against Mercer County Community College in Trenton, New Jersey. They are only a few weeks away from the Region XV Softball Tournament.
