(Garden City, NY) Over the weekend, Nassau Football had their last game of the 2019 season against Navy Prep at Mitchel Field.
The Lions came out with purpose and were the first to get on the scoreboard before the end of the 1st quarter. Running back
Anton Reed rushed from the 1 yard line for a touchdown to put the Lions up 6-0. Moving on to the second quarter, the Nassau defense continued to put a hold on Navy Prep. Nassau got the ball back with 9 minutes to go when
Jordan McLune rushed for almost 20 yards for a touchdown. Going into halftime, the Lions were up 12-0.
Kicking off the 3rd quarter, Nassau continued to dominate. They scored 2 more touchdowns to extend their lead to 24-0. It was in the 4th quarter that the game got interesting. Navy Prep put up their first points at the beginning of the quarter. They went for the 2 point conversion and were successful making the score 24-8. With 8 minutes to go, Navy scored again, inching closer to Nassau. The Lions struggled to find a first down and with just 3 minutes to go in the game, Navy got the ball back. They drove down the field and in 3 plays scored to tie up the game 24-24, and push them into overtime.
Nassau had the first attempt from the 25 yard line. Freshman quarterback
Nathaniel Serrette completed a pass to
Joshua Okechukwu for a touchdown.
Andrew Cuchel's kick was good, putting the Lions back on top, 31-24. Navy's attempt resulted in a touchdown as well. With the score 31-30, they went for 2 and were denied by Nassau's defense, leaving the Lions victorious.
Nassau finishes the year with a winning record of 7-3.Â
