(Garden City, NY) The Nassau Women's Basketball Team hosted Division I opponent ASA College on Sunday to kick off their 2019-2020 season.
The Lions jumped out to take the lead early on, scoring 24 points in the first quarter. They continued to dominate the Avengers, finishing the half 39-26.Â
The intensity and focus on attention to detail that was paid in the first half didn't translate over to the 3rd quarter as the Lions struggled to keep up with ASA. The Avengers outscored NCC by 7 points in the 3rd quarter. Going into the 4th quarter, the women came back with a renewed energy and went on a 9-0 run to help them get back in control of the game. The final score was 70-59.
Outstanding players of the game were Freshman Giavanna Faison who racked up 22 points, 6 rebounds and 3 steals, and Sophomore Lindsay Mcbean, who scored 11 points.
Head Coach
Brian Kuar commented after the game, "We are extremely proud of our girls for stepping up to the challenge today. They played hard and stuck together through adversity. We know there is a lot to improve on and I'm excited to get back to the drawing board with the women this week."
Next up the Lions will be at home again on Thursday against conference rival, Queensborough.
