Football Falls in Overtime to Iowa Central in Graphics Edge Bowl

(Cedar Falls, IA) On Saturday, the No. 19 Nassau Lions Football team traveled to Iowa to compete against Iowa Central in the Graphics Edge Bowl.

The first quarter was neck and neck with both teams scoring a touchdown to make the score 7-7. The Tritons laid on the pressure in the 2nd quarter and were able to sneak in a touchdown before the end of the half, putting them up 14-7. Nassau came back with an eager determination in the second half. They blew through the Tritons defense and scored to tie the game 14-14 before going into the 4th quarter. Both teams put their best foot forward and played to their strengths. It was an exciting quarter as Nassau went up 21-14, but then had Iowa Central come back to score again as well. At the end of regulation, both teams were tied 28-28 and were forced into overtime. Nassau had the first attempt and were unsuccessful in getting the ball close enough to try for a field goal after a few missed attempts at scoring a touchdown. Iowa Central was able to get within field goal range and had their kicker drain the ball down the middle to snag the victory, 31-28.

Outstanding players of the game included Quaterback Nathaniel Serrette, who passed for 213 yards with 1 touchdown and 1 interception. He also rushed for a total of 32 yards. Jaelin Hood rushed 8 times for 78 yards and a touchdown. Teammate Josh Okechukwu had 5 receptions for 51 yards. Joshua Pierre-Louis recorded 8 tackles and 1 sack, while Nick Olivier had 3 tackles and 1 interception.

"Although we are disappointed that we weren't able to pull out a win today, we are proud of the men for finishing the year 7-4. We are sad to see our veterans go, but are looking forward to progressing even further next year with our young team." stated Head Coach Jamal Ramsay after the game.
