Men’s Baseball Struggles Against Suffolk in Weekend Double Header

Game 1

(Garden City, NY) The Lions Varsity baseball team hosted Suffolk CC at home last weekend. They were coming off of a solid 5-1 win against the Sharks from the day prior and were looking to continue the momentum. 
 
NCC jumped to the lead in the first inning off of TJ Toscano's double to make the score 1-0. 
 
In the third inning, Suffolk got on the board scoring 2 runs. It wasn't until the seventh inning, that the Sharks pulled awa, scoring 11 runs. The Lions fell to the Sharks 19-2.
 
Andrew Ammazzaloroso was on the mound for Nassau. He went strong for five innings, allowing 6 runs on 10 hits and struck out 5 batters. Joe Welna threw two innings out of the bullpen. 
 
Outstanding Lions of the game was Toscano, who went 2 for 3 at the plate to lead Nassau in hits.

Game 2

(Garden City, NY) The second game of the double header against Suffolk CC last weekend for Nassau Lions baseball was a close one.
 
The Lions got on the board early in the second inning. Mike Sokol singled on a 0-1 count, scoring 1 run. NCC tallied a total of 5 runs before closing out the inning. The offense was led by Mike Iacobellis, Michael Simmons, John Capozzoli, Mike Sokol, and TJ Toscano, who all sent runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning.
 
The game was tied 6-6 going into the top of the fifth. Suffolk grounded out, scoring 1 to put the Sharks ahead. Suffolk pulled away with an 8-6 victory.
 
Andrew Williams was on the mound for Nassau. He allowed 12 hits and 8 runs over six innings and struck out 5 batters. Joe Wolf came in from the bullpen to pitch one inning of relief.
 
Overall, NCC collected 9 hits on the day, compared to Suffolk's 13. Iacobellis and Nick Cavallo led the team in hits, each recording 2.
 
The Lions will be back in action on Tuesday against Bronx CC.
