(Garden City, NY) On Sunday, the Women's Softball team hosted a double header against the CCRI Knights to kick off their 2019 season.
The Lions struggled against the Knights in the first game. They gave up a total of 21 runs, but held the team scoreless in the last two innings of the first game. NCC tallied 1 run making the final score 21-1.
Early on in the second game,
Maya Jones had a great hit that led her to an inside the park home run. She recorded an RBI of 2 and helped the Lions get on the board. NCC faltered and was defeated 16-2.
Head Coach
Kerri Baum commented after the game, "Unfortunately, we've only been able to practice outside once before this game because of inclement weather up and down the East Coast this winter. Regardless, I was really proud of how tough our women were. It was truly inspiring to watch them persevere through two long games. And although we fell to the Knights, the team stuck together to see both games through with their heads held high. We will be ready for next weekend."
The Lions go back to back this weekend, with their first set of games on Saturday against Dutchess CC. Then they play New Hampshire Tech Institute in a double header on Sunday. All four games will be hosted at the Lions home field.
