(Garden City, NY) Over the weekend, Nassau Football suited up against Hudson Valley CC. The Lions were coming off of an exciting victory from the week before where they edged out Louisburg College, 21-20. It was clear that the men were ready to get back to work on their home turf.
The game started off slow without a point scored in the first quarter. Nassau's quarterback Steven Sanchez and running back Maurice Teachey helped get the Lions on the score board just before halftime when Teachey ran 21-yards for a touchdown.
Hudson Valley came back with a vengeance in the 3rd quarter scoring 12 points. The Vikings defense also held the Lions from scoring, allowing them to take the lead 12-7. Going into the 4th quarter, Freshman
Anton Reed got the lead back for the Lions after running 12 yards for a touchdown. 8 minutes later, Jordan Mclune broke through the Hudson Valley defense and ran for 66 yards to put the Lions even further out of reach. With less than 2 minutes to play, Sanchez threw a 25-yard pass to Teachey who scored his second touchdown of the night and secured the victory for the Lions, 28-12.
Outstanding players of the game were Jordan Mclune who ran for 106 yards on 11 carries and 1 touchdown. Quarterback Steven Sanchez threw for 281 yards and completed 2 touchdown passes. Maurice Teachey tallied 146 yards receiving and 2 touchdown catches. Overall there were 19 penalties and 4 turnovers for the Lions.
Quarterbacks Coach
Marc Poppe commented, "Although we weren't as sharp as we usually are and were dinged with turnovers and penalties, our players responded well in the 4th quarter when the pressure was on. This is good experience for us as we continue to play top notch teams."
The Lions will rest during their bye this week and come back refreshed and ready to host Army Prep at home on Friday, October 4th.Â
