Lions Split Doubleheader With Ulster

Game  1

Nassau Community College Lions Varsity fell behind early and couldn't come back in a 3-1 loss to Ulster CC on Saturday.  Ulster CC took the lead on an error in the second inning.

The pitching was strong on both sides. Ulster CC pitchers struck out nine, while Nassau Community College Lions Varsity sat down seven.

Ulster CC opened up scoring in the second inning, when an error scored one run for Ulster CC.

#3 was on the pitcher's mound for Ulster CC. The fireballer allowed two hits and one run over five innings, striking out eight.

Bryan Krolikowski led things off on the mound for Nassau Community College Lions Varsity. Krolikowski surrendered three runs on four hits over five innings, striking out four and walking one.  Joe DeTommaso threw one inning out of the bullpen.

James Brush, Jordan Chin, and Jorge Espinal each collected one hit to lead Nassau Community College Lions Varsity.

#10 went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Ulster CC in hits.

Game 2

Nassau Community College Lions Varsity took the lead late and defeated Ulster CC 11-9 on Saturday.  The game was tied at eight with Nassau Community College Lions Varsity batting in the top of the tenth when Sean Tierney singled on a 3-1 count, scoring one run.

A six-run lead in the fourth inning was just enough for Nassau Community College Lions Varsity to hold off Ulster CC for the victory.  Ulster CC managed seven runs in the failed comeback. #24, #8,  #7, and #22 all picked up RBIs in the rally.

In the second inning, Nassau Community College Lions Varsity got their offense started.  Richie Apollo drove in one when Apollo tripled.

Ulster CC knotted the game up at eight in the bottom of the fifth inning, when #7 doubled on a 0-1 count, scoring one run.

After Nassau Community College Lions Varsity scored two runs in the top of the third, Ulster CC answered with two of their own.  Nassau Community College Lions Varsity scored when Max Grewal drew a walk, scoring one run and an error scored one run for Nassau Community College Lions Varsity.  Ulster CC then answered when #7 doubled on a 1-1 count, scoring one run and #23 doubled on a 1-1 count, scoring one run.

James Cappozzi was on the mound for Nassau Community College Lions Varsity. The righty surrendered three runs on four hits over four innings, striking out seven.

Nassau Community College Lions Varsity launched one home run on the day. Frank DiMartino went deep in the fourth inning.

Apollo went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead Nassau Community College Lions Varsity in hits.

Ulster CC had eight hits in the game.  #23, #7, and #8 each collected multiple hits for Ulster CC.  #23 led Ulster CC with three hits in five at bats.
