The defending National Champion Lions Lacrosse team held their season opener against the No. 3 ranked CCBC-Essex Friday evening. Both teams made the National Tournament last season and looked to start the season strong and stake their claim as a top team. The game started off with both teams coming out of the gate a little bit slow as they sized their opposition up. But when both teams got going they got going in major ways. Both teams would go on major runs back and forth as when it seemed Essex would score a few unanswered goals the Lions would fight back with a few of their own then when The Lions would go on a scoring run Essex would respond with a run of their own. At the end of the first quarter Essex was up on the defending champions by a score of 3-7. The Lions however would go into the second quarter and manage to claw their way back into competition as they would go on to out score Essex 5-1 thus tying the game up at halftime with a score of 8-8. The second half maintained the playoff atmosphere between the two teams as they continued to go back and forth with the Lions eventually being the winners as they managed to will their way past Essex by a score of 16-15 and the Lions opening their season with a huge victory.
