Region Tournament Semi-Final
The Lions entered the Region XIV/ XV tournament as the #3 ranked team and looked to punch their ticket the National Championship tournament by winning the tournament. Their first matchup was a semi-final game against Mercer County. This game would be a regular season rematch between the two that saw the Lions win convincingly by a score of 15-1. However, playoffs is a completely new entity where anything can happen and the Lions knew that entering the matchup. The Lions kicked off the game wasting no time as they found themselves up 5-0 by the end of the first quarter with goals coming from
Brian Pohoreckyj (Unassisted),
Sean Rice (
Kamryn Gill),
Ryan Murphy (
Brian Pohoreckyj), and two goals by Gerry Maldonado, both being assisted by
Shane Coleman. Entering the second quarter the Lions kept their foot on the pedal as no early lead is safe when it comes to lacrosse. The Lions would add five more goals coming from
Sean Rice (Unassisted), two goals from
Brian Pohoreckyj (
Jordan McCoy &
Kamryn Gill),
Logan Liantonio (Brian Pohorecky), and
Jordan McCoy (Unassisted). Mercer would manage to get on the board just before halftime as they scored with 15 seconds left bringing the score at halftime to 10-1. The second half began with a Mercer goal but the Lions would respomd by scoring three unasnwered coming from
Sean Rice (
Brian Pohoreckyj),Â
Brian Pohoreckyj (Unassisted), and
James Saragossi (
Luke Vando). Mercer would break up the Lions scoring by scoring another goal of ther own that would be followed up by goals by
Sean Elliott (Unassisted), andÂ
Brian Pohoreckyj (Unassisted) to close out the third quarter by a score of 15-3. Mercer opened the up the final quarter by scoring just two minutes in however the Lions would respond just seconds after with a
James Saragossi unassisted goal. The Lions would close out the game with a final unassisted goal coming from
Kyle Kolano giving the Lions the 17-4 victory and securing a Tournament Final with Delaware Tech. The Lions top performance came from
Brian Pohoreckyj who recorded 5 goals, 3 assists, and 6 groundballs.
Region Tournament FinalÂ
The Lions faced the Region Tournament #1 ranked team and the #8 Nationally ranked Delaware Tech in the Region Tournament Final. Delaware opened the game swinging first as they scored back to back goals and jumped out to a an early two goal lead within the first two minutes. However the Lions would respond in a big way as
Kamryn Gill scored four straight goals with assists coming fromÂ
Brian Pohoreckyj,
John Mavlios, and
Sean Rice.
Jordan McCoy would then follow up with four straight goals himself receiving an assist from
Luke Vando. The Lions would then get four more goals coming from
David Squires (Unassisted),
Ryan Murphy (Unassisted),
Luke Vando (Unassisted), and
Ryan Murphy (Unassisted) again. The Lions scored 12 unaswered goals after the inital Delaware two. The second quarter was much like the first with Delaware coming out and scoring two goals but the Lions responded by scoring three in a row. The Lions goals came from
Kamryn Gill (
Ryan Murphy), and
James Saragossi scoring two with both being assisted by
Sean Rice. At halftime the Lions were up by a score of 15-4, and entering the third quarter they continued their roll with scoring goals coming from
Frank Falco (
James Saragossi), two goals from
Sean Rice with both being assisted from
Kamryn Gill, and a goal from
Ryan Murphy (
Frank Falco). Delaware would close out the third quarter going on a three goal run bringing the score to 19-7 entering the fourth quarter. The fourth quarter was all Lions as they managed to keep Delaware off the board while scoring eight goals. The eight goals came from
Brian Pohoreckyj who had three with assists from
Logan Liantonio,
Shane Coleman, and
Kamryn Gill.
James Saragossi also had three fourth quarter goals with assists fromÂ
Brian Pohoreckyj, and
Phil D'Amico.
Ryan Murphy got on the board again with an assist from
Sean Gillespie and
Phil D'Amico closed the game out with an unassisted goal to give the Lions a 27-7 victory winning the Region Tournament and punching their ticket to the NJCAA National Championship Tournament. Some top Lions performances came from
Kamryn Gill who recorded 5 goals and 3 assists;
James Saragossi who recorded 5 goals and an assist; and both
Brian Pohoreckyj and
Ryan Murphy who recorded 5 points in their performances. The Lions look forward to playing in the National Tournament as they look to defend their title.
